Too much clutter on the top and sides. The document should be the focus of the screen, not the Document Actions crap on the side

That window is damned ugly. Weird rip on Apple's Brushed Metal, but worse (and Brushed Metal blows.) What's with the icon clutter? God this thing looks a mess!

Looks like they're dumbing down the interface - guess they are trying to appeal to Mac addicts?! I didn't even like the current version of Word!

Is that a menu or button-bar at the top? It seems to contain two kinds of drop-down menus, tabs, and probably buttons. Caveat: I haven't used Word in a few versions.

Hmm. Well, I can't say that I'm a Mac fan (I only use Windows), but I have to agree with N; Office 12 and Windows Vista in general appears to totally rip off of Mac. This should, however, come as no suprise to those of you who have extensively used MS progs in the last ten years. Microsoft has not come out with an original application ever. Google comes out and MS releases MSN Search. Realplayer comes out and MS releases Windows Media Player 10. Mac comes out with an advanced OS search program, and Windows attempts to copy it. Any perks that new MS programs will offer will certainly be offset by an obscene price tag and errors to boot.
Oh, and about Office 12's interface; I think MS has the right idea when it comes to graphics: make them better, brighter, more realistic, with a higher resolution, and use them to represent ever function under the sun. But it appears that MS will need to seriously redesign the interface to make it more logical. Assuming that this image is the default appearance, it sure looks silly. The save icon is miniscule and the clipboard icon is the size of Texas.

Actually, I rather like that the stuff you do most (ie cut/paste) is a large icon that you only need to vaguely wave your mouse at to hit. But I agree that there's way too much padding around the document itself.

The visuals hit me right off. But it's when you start using it that you get the real experience. There seem to be some useful things in here.
