Exploring Your Hosting Options

On the Microsoft .NET platform, you have several types of managed Windows applications that you can create with Microsoft Visual Studio.NET:

  • WinForms applications
  • Console applications
  • Windows services
  • Web applications (ASP.NET) hosted on Internet Information Services (IIS)
  • WCF services inside IIS 7.0 and WAS on Windows Vista or Windows Server 2007

I think, they (MS) should name it somehow. The same as they did with Vista. Nice name makes people a little bit more happy about their everyday-stuff....

It doesn't matter much for the Server version since those don't see retail stores, at least I never saw Windows Server on sale at Best Buy etc.  And they update it often, though they didn't change the name when they did Windows Server 2003 R2, it was a new release either way.  Had new features and stuff that people wanted.

I think everyone expected this next version to be called Server 2007 though.
