The new Windows LiveTM Messenger Beta is the next-generation MSN Messenger and, as always, it is free to download.

It has everything you already love about Messenger – your contact list, emoticons, and plenty of ways to access to your friends via text, voice and video – plus new ways to connect and share documents with magical ease.

When you move to the new Windows Live Messenger, it will be like upgrading from one MSN Messenger version to the next. All your contacts will move with you, as will all your personalised elements (emoticons, winks, user tiles, themes, etc…).

What is Windows Live?

Your online world gets better when everything works simply and effortlessly together. That's the basic idea behind Windows Live. So the things you care about - your friends, the latest information, your e-mails, powerful search, your PC files, everything – comes together in one place. This is a brand new Internet experience designed to put you in control. And this is just the beginning – you'll see many more new services in the coming months.

I didn't find my country Norway in the list, so I tried registering my norwegian mailbox and UK as country. Maybe it'll work :P

It's weird. The screens shown at the site of from the previous build, not the one available in the closed beta.

There's nothing to download for me, however "Netherlands" is in the list. It just says "thank you for your interest". Or something like that, I don't know for sure. Maybe they'll send me an e-mail later.

sorry to say it's still a closed beta.

Thanks for your interest in the Windows Live™ Messenger Beta

We think you are really going to enjoy test driving the new features. And we can't wait to hear what you think of it. We need your help to build it right.

To sign up for the beta, please give us your e-mail address so we can send you an invitation when it becomes available.  We'll also use it to keep you in the loop about the latest developments. We'll use your e-mail address for this beta release and relevant updates only, and the first notice you receive about this will include the option to discontinue further messages regarding the Windows Live™ Messenger Beta if you choose.

Read more about the Windows Live™ Messenger Beta.

You still have to apply to use the beta so therefore how can it be an OPEN beta? Not to mention the screen shots are of the old closed beta and not the current version. I think it's a case of "Right hand doesn't know what left hand is doing!"

About Spy

Hello world, as they say. I'm in Melbourne Australia and work as a Systems Administrator. I go to work every day with a smile on my face as I just love my work. Our company works across 30+ sites around the state so I travel a bit. We use mostly MS products, IBM hardware and 100% Cisco networking...it's a sweet mix for sure. I've been around Bink's site since it's inception way back when it was just a group on the MS site...that was a while ago. Bink.nu is the leading source of Microsoft news on the web that's for sure and I love being a part of Steven's team. Anyway, hope you enjoy the site.
