When you use certain programs to edit files on a home computer that uses Windows Home Server, the files may become corrupted when you save them to the home server. Several people have reported issues after they have used the following programs to save files to their home servers:

Windows Vista Photo Gallery
Windows Live Photo Gallery
Microsoft Office OneNote 2007
Microsoft Office OneNote 2003
Microsoft Office Outlook 2007
Microsoft Money 2007
SyncToy 2.0 Beta
Additionally, there have been customer reports of issues with Torrent applications, with Intuit Quicken, and with QuickBooks program files. Our support team is currently trying to reproduce these issues in our labs.

Make sure that you have a backup copy of any important program files before you store these files on a system that is running Windows Home Server. How ironic, you buy Homeserver for centralised backup Surprise

This issue may occur because of a recently discovered problem with Windows Home Server shared folders and with certain programs.

Keep checking This KB for a fix: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/946676/en-us?spid=12624

This is when editing files on the Home Server. It is because it balances the storage across the hard drives. So it tries to move the bytes that you have open to different locations thus splitting up your file.

You should either use offline files if you plan on having a shared folder you do work in or (mostly with torrents) use the d drive for downloads then when they are complete have it auto transfer into a share.

Also, its backup feature has nothing to do with this.

It seems the problems aren't with WHS itself but the apps and how they're trying to write data to WHS which is different.

im gonna knock on wood but im glad to see that the linux community didnt use this as a bashing point for the platform...

the  fact is im really uptaken with the way the general audience of reviewers have accepted WHS... i mean even linux guru's have gone on record saying they like the roll out, and their main complaint is the control center isn't available yet for linux and osx to work with the WHS
