Today we are announcing the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) of Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. SP2 represents the latest step in Microsoft’s commitment to continuous improvement. It includes all updates that have been delivered since SP1, as well as support for new types of hardware and emerging hardware standards.

As we have mentioned before, here are some of the key benefits of Windows Vista SP2:

  • Windows Search 4.0 for faster and improved relevancy in searches
  • Bluetooth 2.1 Feature Pack supporting the most recent specification for Bluetooth Technology
  • Ability to record data on to Blu-Ray media natively in Windows Vista
  • Adds Windows Connect Now (WCN) to simplify Wi-Fi Configuration
  • Windows Vista SP2 enables the exFAT file system to support UTC timestamps, which allows correct file synchronization across time zones.

Hey there,

I have a error when installing SP2 for Vista Ultimate X64.

It gives me this error:

smi primitive installer failed during setup or servicing. Error 0x8007371c

I hope anyone can help with this issue. I downloaded the all language installation.

Hey, LucienV, Vista SP2 is NOT yet available on Windows Update nor the Microsoft Download center.  where did you actually download Vista SP2 RTM?

johlos, are you also wondering how LucienV obtained Vista SP2 RTM?  Microsoft indeed RTM'ed SP2, but NOT RTW'ed (release to web) it.  RTW is when MS actually makes SP2 available on Microsoft Update or Windows Update, which will happen late next month.

LucienV probably got his from a torrent site as I don't think Technet/MSDN subscribers even got it. I wonder if it's even the final release.

Why do people [no offence LucienV ] install a SP before waiting to see if there is any issues? I waited about 3 months before installing XP SP3 and look at the issues that creaped up [see Jesper's blog].

For those that have kept up to date, the SP will offer limited enhancements.

in that case, gisabun, SHAME on LucienV for getting Vista SP2 from a torrent site.  and he admitted to obtaining the "all language installation" of SP2 which is not even out yet; utterly appalling!

I checked late yesterday on the MSDN & Technet Subscription downloads page and only the 5 language edition of Vista SP2 RTM was available.  No other Vista SP2 RTM downloads were posted but that one.

I happen to stumble upon this forum page on Vista SP2:

bbs.pcbeta.com/viewthread.php

partial quote from a poster:

"RTM Build Service Pack 2 will be announced by 29 April, and RTW Service Pack 2 will be available only at the end of May - for Wave 0 - English, Spanish, Japanese, German, French."

Official downloads of SP2 [RTW = release to web] could be available at Windows Update and at Microsoft Download Center by the end of May.  I'll be downloading straight from the Microsoft source instead of what LucienV did so that I know I'm getting the real thing and not encountering problems what LucienV had experienced.

To all above, i really did not know it was not a legit download, it was posted on many sites, i am a Windows enthousiast and meant no harm. I removed the file from my computer and will wait for official release.

p.s: Never got it to install anyway :p
