Thank you Bink for your great website !

From my point of view only Exchange Edge services are missing. A subset or all the new features will be included into Exchange 2003 SP2 planned for the second half of 2005.

Xavier

Hi, Bink

Just like you say, based on facts and assumptions,  I don't see the program
Windows XP Reduced Media Edition.
(Well, this edition will be only for Europe)

Best Regards

XPSP3 will perhaps ship after Longhorn. What MS though needs to do is ship a final Service Pack 5 for Windows 2000 rather than coming up with new versions of Money and Encarta every year. Maybe Digital Image Suite 11? 9 shipped in 2003 and 10 this year. Maybe MapPoint and Virtual PC 2006?

I think that Microsoft will release a newer version of IE (7.0?) or an updated version of IE 6.0 --> 6.5. This is because of the competition. I think MS wants to show that they are not out of "innovation" with the browser. Lets see.

As far as anyone knows (was posted at Microsoft's site as well), there will not be a SP5 for W2K...and if there's a SP3 for XP, it will only be a security rollup package, with no significant OS changes like SP2.

Direct X 10 will be released with Longhorn.

I read that VS2005 has been ready for some time but that those M$ people tied the release date to SQL servers relase date or something like that which was not ready. So is there any idea WHEN in 2005 Visual Studio .Net 2005 will be released?

I'm still using 2002 ver. and it has some nasty bugs, so i was hoping that i could skip 2003 and go with 2005. Coolest will be the edit and continue debugging feature.

Anyhow, i don't feel like putting up with the beta of 2005 either, so i guess i'll have to wait for the full thing, just hope it comes out within the next month or so, i mean 2003 version was released before the 2003 year even hit, why do they have to wait now?!

SP3 for XP will be a normal Service Pack but yes a service pack for sure and not an update rollup. Regarding games, MS had also planned Train Simulator 2 but thank god (god knows why [:D] lol) it is not scrapped. Anyone who's seen the first version should know why.

What about ACS (Audit Collection System) MS has been working on for 5 years? However, it appears bits of it are in R2, so not sure if it all will be in R2 or just bits to work with a separate package.

Anyone know?

Per Paul Thurrot at Windows IT Pro magazine, "Microsoft issued a bit of good news, bad news last week when it revealed that its previously expected Microsoft Exchange Server Edge Services product wouldn't ship in 2005 as planned. Instead, Microsoft
will roll the features from Exchange Edge Services into the next
service pack for Exchange Server 2003 and into the next major version of Exchange, code-named Kodiak."
