Bink: In my opinion this article is complete nonsence, it is been posted here cause it is floating around the Internet last few days. What is your opinion
Microsoft is secretly working on a new OS with the core team of Vista, sounds exciting? well indeed it is. Some insiders have told me that this new OS is not based on DOS unlike all Windows [Bink: aha, so Windows NT, 2000, XP is based on DOS afterall!] and it wont be prefix Windows just Omnigo as for now. This OS is being built for their future devices such as Surface and upcoming Gadgets(I sense Mac OS X) and moreover the development is moving rapidly as if Microsoft is planning to release this by 2008 itself. The team behind this project have all been the part of original Windows thus everybody is really enjoying working together and enthusiastic about this upcoming OS.
Coming on to features it is confirmed that you wouldn't require keyboard or mouse to use it, It will be used in touchscreen interface and since its being developed from scratch specifically for such devices. It might give Mac OS X a tough competition with gadgets like Surface, Zune Phone (maybe).
Lets hope for the best, although we can't really expect much from Microsoft but if everything turns out well. They can gain the reputation back with the upcoming Surface Table and the new Technologies being developed all while giving Apple, Googler really really hard time.
Microsoft Corporation is an American multinational computer technology corporation with 76,000 employees in 102 countries and global annual revenue of US $51.12 billion as of 2007. It develops, manufactures, licenses and supports a wide range of software products for computing devices. Indeed, as fake as can be. Probably someone trying to hoax.
This article is laced with abysmal grammar and spelling. Not only that, it's so horribly generic and non-specific that it could be talking about any project. Any legitimate journalist would be embarrassed to publish this with his/her name on it.
The Vista team is still working on Vista SP1, so I doubt seriously that they've already been re-assigned to a new project. Moreover, if they have, God help us, because Vista is a nightmare of its own.
The Surface OS has been in development for a very long time, so it would come as no surprise to see it eventually usurp power from Windows some day, but touch-based computing is only just starting to become mainstream, people are very resistant and slow to change, so it won't happen in 2008 by any means.
The only somewhat believable/plausible info from this article is the possibility of a Zune Phone. I certainly believe that discussions and preliminary development are being done on this one, and I guarantee it will be touch-based. Will it show up in 2008? Well, that one remains to be seen.
'...with the core team of Vista...'
In order to Microsoft continues doing bussiness, the full Vista team would to be fired.
Not true
The core Windows team isn't the team that works on Service Packs. I think MS said this before already. SP's are done by another group at MS. The Windows team moves right on to working on the next version of the server or client OS.
They also already said they've changed quite a few people in the Windows team, bringging over people who worked on Office 2k7. All this info is out there already. Anyways, MS is working on a new OS of sorts, but it's nowhere near ready to be used for desktops. And with all the money they put on the Windows brand name, they're not going to just dump it and use something else. The Surface units run on Vista btw.
This is what my father used to refer to as "talking through one's hat."
