The beta of Sysinternals Live was announced today. A service that enables you to execute Sysinternals tools directly from the Web without hunting for and manually downloading them. Simply enter a tool's Sysinternals Live path into Windows Explorer or a command prompt as \\live.sysinternals.com\tools\<toolname> or view the entire Sysinternals Live tools directory in a browser at http://live.sysinternals.com.................Continue At Source
Wait a minute, let me get this straight, Microsoft want me to run an executable directly from the internet?!
in my day this sort of thing was frowned upon to say the least.
Better to download all the utilities as Sysinternals Suite from technet.microsoft.com/.../0e18b180-9b7a-4c49-8120-c47c5a693683.aspx
I don't see how this is any different than say running a web based AV or Antispyware check on your system. I think this is a nice idea actually.
Yes, let's all allow our browsers to run .exe files. Oh and why don't we all disable this annoying UAC thing and speed up our systems by disabling those useless Firewalls and AVs...
This is a good idea but a halfhearted initiative. Make those tools available as ActiveX components or Firefox plug-ins and then tell us about """Live Execute""". For the moment call it whatever you want, it's just "Run a .exe from a shared folder".
Microsoft hates the web, always has and most likely will do for a while. It takes Adobe Air and Google Gears for MS to start thinking about "Live Mesh" or whatever they will call their buggy alternative.
Here's an idea: How about a light, fast, crapware free, professional user oriented operating system? Hopefully someone from Google will read this and come up with something.
That's it, you go for it, a one man crusade against the evils of MS.
You have earnt bonus MS hater points because you have metioned nearly all the key words - firefox, Google, Adobe....
why would they want to make it an addon for activex... those are both possibly just as dangerous as the EXE... both can exploit the system and both can technically force elevation in the right circumstances...
as for live mesh... foldershare has been their for a very long time and works better than anything else out their... and sorry Air and Gears are not the same as Mesh.... MobileME is more like Mesh.. but even then ME costs 100$ a year mesh wont.
