The design is great, hope the memory that this program eats is less than it was. I like microsoft search, but it does have a problem dealing with memory consumption.... Plus, somehow google has support for PDF and microsoft needs a special plugin which has memory problems either

I confess to not being an absolute genius about the matter, but considering that a search index would very largely depend on the number of files and amount of content in files being indexed as well as the organization of those files... it is reasonable to conclude that it could potentially consume a LOT of memory.

Maybe it's my neat freak tendencies, or maybe I'm smarter than I give myself credit for, but I generally tend to know exactly what I call my files and where I put them... afterall, it's kinda like remembering where I park my car... I put a lot of time, effort, and money into my work, so it's only appropriate that I take a minute to actually pay attention to what I'm doing.

The "plugin" for Desktop Search is the genious of their design.  With it, anyone can provide an ifilter driver for their file type and instantly expose thier metadata to Desktop Search, Sharepoint, and a slew of other systems that take advantage of the ifilter interface.

What you regard as a dificiency of MSDS over GDS is actually a strength.  Maybe it should be rolled into the install, but not everyone would need to search for PDFs.  Right now, I have very few on my system myself.
