This isn't really a future projection it's more like what you should be able to get today.
I remember about 10 years ago, in school, they were talking about being able to get your shopping trolley full of stuff and paying automatically without having to use a check out. It seems like it is taking a long time. Also, I don't think supermarkets would be too pleased with people walking directly to the items they need and avoiding all of their promotional displays.
supermarkets would find ways to shove advertising down our throats they always do...
but it is indeed sad that its taken so long for anything like this to come to market, its really depressing
