Microsoft has released a Safari- and Firefox-compatible plugin that adds support for its new WPF/E format for the delivery of rich media content over the Internet.

WPF/E (Windows Presentation Foundation/Everywhere) is a cross platform extension to Windows Vista's WPF graphics subsystem that provides a subset of WPF features, such as hardware accelerated video, vector graphics, and animations to platforms other than Vista, specifically Windows XP and 2000, Firefox, Safari, Linux and mobile devices.

Essentially, WPF is Microsoft's alternative to Adobe's Flash-based Flex environment for delivering both rich media content and applications via a Web browser.

WPF/E Community Technology Preview for Mac (Dec 2006) is a free download from microsoft.com/downloads.

The plugin expires on 18 February 18 2007 and will periodically ping Microsoft.com to verify its integrity (the only information that will be communicated will be your IP address and the module version).

About Spy

Hello world, as they say. I'm in Melbourne Australia and work as a Systems Administrator. I go to work every day with a smile on my face as I just love my work. Our company works across 30+ sites around the state so I travel a bit. We use mostly MS products, IBM hardware and 100% Cisco networking...it's a sweet mix for sure. I've been around Bink's site since it's inception way back when it was just a group on the MS site...that was a while ago. Bink.nu is the leading source of Microsoft news on the web that's for sure and I love being a part of Steven's team. Anyway, hope you enjoy the site.
