Microsoft and HCL have together announced a set of initiatives which includes the roll out of a low-priced ultra portable Windows OS enabled laptop, under the MiLeap brand of HCL Leaptops.

Operating on Windows XP Home edition, the new MiLeap H Series laptop weighs just 0.98kg and sports a 7-inch TFT colour screen display; this screen can be rotated and folded to be converted into a writing pad. User can write on the screen with the stylus and convert it to text.

Powered by ultra-low voltage consuming Intel Processor and Intel 945 GU Express chipset, the laptop comes equipped with a 1.3 mega pixel webcam, touch screen panel, and 1GB DDR2 RAM. In addition, the laptop also includes a built-in touchpad with two click buttons for left and right click operations, scroll, directional pads, dedicated softkeys for launching the media player and built-in speakers. The connectivity options include Wi-Fi and integrated LAN.

Touted to be the lowest priced Windows XP powered laptop in the market, it costs Rs 16,990 or US $425

The launch of this new Windows OS enabled low-priced laptop comes just a week after Microsoft announced the worldwide extension of the availability of Windows XP Home for ULCPCs until June 30, 2010.
