To coincide with the release of Windows Mobile 5.0, Microsoft have developed a new version of ActiveSync. Users can now sync Media files using WMP10 and AS4.

The following has been added:

  • Improved USB support
  • View Exchange Server Synchronization status on your PC
Synchronization of pictures in Contacts on your mobile device with Outlook
  • Easier to identify friendly device names
  • Synchronization over a Bluetooth connection with your PC
  • Integration with Windows Media Player 10
  • Enhanced user interface and enhanced new partnership wizard
  • More robust synchronization with Outlook
  • Configure synchronization settings prior to first synchronization, including custom synchronization settings

Under 3.8 I have a network sync function which allows me to update my Axim via the wireless network and this function has now gone from 4.0.

Sure you can use active sync with your 2003 exchange server but not longer via your PC for tasks etc.

    Improvement, what improvement?

I have found the same issue. My iPAQ 4150 won't connect via WLAN anymore. I'll go back to 3.8

I've read you should keep 3.8 active sync installed and then upgrade to the 4.0 if you are using ws2003 devices still. When windows mobile 5.0 devices are connected the new active sync interface will be used and the older interface will be used when windows mobile 2003 devices are connected.
