"An article in today's Investor's Business Daily (Google cache) and an article by TV industry pundit/predictions-huckster Philip Swann say the same thing: that Microsoft's Media Center Edition will be a big flop in 2005. Meanwhile, from what I can tell much more powerful alternatives to Microsoft's MCE bloatware are thriving: commercial products like Snapstream (see their 6-tuner Medusa PVR built for about $1200), Showshifter and open-source freeware like Mediaportal and MythTV.
Any article that claims an OS that fits on one CD is "bloatware" is usually written by a certifiable moron. And coming from Slashdot, which spends a lot of time touting Operating Systems that come on 7 CD's, it is an even bigger joke.
On top of that, the claim that there is an article on Investors Daily in the Google cache is bogus.
The Medusa PVR is a home built non-product.
etc etc.
Posting this kind of stuff clearly damages your reputation as a useful site for Windows news.
I gather the guy didn't like MCE 2005 on the laptop supplied to him for review. I wouldn't want MCE 2005 on a laptop either.
And he didn't like the performace he got from the HP Media Extender.
PCMag liked both:
