Activewin.com is claiming that their source confirmed that the Windows Server Code Name "Longhorn" will be named Windows Server 2007. Well that is very original, but I must say I'm quite surprised if this is true, because I thought MS would name it Windows Server 2008, it will be released in 2nd half of 2007.

Yeah, I hate it when they do that.  If I remember correctly, that happened with Office 2003 and Windows 2000.  That makes it feel kind of outdated when the new year rolls in.

Well, 2nd Half of 2007 is still 2007,  and that starts when, June right?   If it goes more towards the end of 2007, they could just change the name to 2008 later,  it's a minor thing.

After the naming of office I'm betting on "Microsoft 2007 Server" with Standard/Enterprise/Home/Datacenter/Web/Ultimate/Donkey edition tacked on the end.
With Office, this was to emphasise the age of currently running products as far as I recall.

Could be 2008 as said previously, although 2007 will match the other products nicely

They don't have a really new build from what i've been reading,  #6001.  They should start this beta test quick and get a move on,  it's been very quiet for months.

I think knowing when to expect the server to come out is more important when it comes to servers than clients, so I think...

2003   Windows 2003

sp1

2005   Windows 2003 R2

sp2

2007   Windows 2007

sp1

2009?   Windows 2007 R2?

sp2

2011?   Windows 2011?

sp1

...does this make sense?

A major edition every four years and a minor edition two years after every major release.

In addition this could mean
2007   SQL Server 2005 R2, Virtual Server 2007
2008   BizTalk 2008
2009   SQL Server 2009, Virtual Server 2009
2010   BizTalk 2010
