here's some more info on this: http://www.whois.net/whois.cgi2?d=windowsview.us
vista = views in english and vista is spanish
It wasn't until Beta 2 that Whistler became XP right? Isn't this still a little early for official branding? I can see how this fits into their "new look for Windows" mantra, but I could also see this being something else as of yet under the radar.
This also dovetails nicely with the prepreation of Beta 1 for wider consumption. I guess well find out tomorrow.
http://radio.weblogs.com/0001011/2005/07/21.html#a10721 Ok, I conceed. Looks like Windows View might be the actual name as per Sn4k36's posting and Scooble's comment... but I would have expected windowsansicht.de would be registered too.
Stephen I'm grabbing windowsmening.nu for you while it's still available. [;)]
I wouldn't be surprised if it is called Vista, and that they will try and register all variations of the name, just so that can't have anyone with names that are the same/similar etc. We all remember windowsxp.nu
American market = views, rest of the world vista as we do understand its origin?
sorry i have made a mistake in that... vista is italain for view
Personally, I'm going to wait until it RTMs before deciding for sure what the name is.
SUS 2.0 -> WUS -> WSUS (just as I was finally getting used to saying "WUS"), Whistler Server -> Windows .NET Server -> Windows Server 2003, and those are just the few that come to mind immediately as names that changed between the last beta and RTM. Since Longhorn isn't even to Beta1 yet, I wouldn't be shocked to hear that the name changes once (or twice, or more) between now, Beta1, Beta2, and RTM. Personally, I like "Windows Longhorn" and "Windows Longhorn Server", but nobody asks me. [8-|]
this link will have all the details at 6am PDT

That's a pathetic name... it sounds like something old people 'appreciate' the look of from their veranda in their retirement apartment in Italy.
I am already dreading the crap conversational digressions in meetings when we're trying to introduce this operating system to senior managers and customers.
'Vista? Vista? Oh, we had a lovely Vista in our villa in Spain... Oh I say it was right treat! We'll have to go back there this year again... oh I'm sorry what were you saying about Indigo and Avalon? Can you surf the Internet and send e-mail with it then or what?'
Well vista in Portuguese means eye.... so...
I think it is a very strange name to say the least!
this is to clear it up....
vista means view in both italian and spanish
I also think that the name Windows Vista is lame. They couldn't call it Windows 2006 because then the server version would be called Windows 2007 or 2008. This way it'll be Windows Vista and Windows Vista Server.
They could simply name it Windows 6.0 but of course that wouldn't be the best marketing wise. Maybe Windows Vista will grow on us all...
We will get used to the name, like people have got used to Windows.
