Hyper-V has RTM'ed ! That is way earlier than the initial 180 days after Windows Server 2008 release. Expect more information and official press release later today.
This is GREAT news! Z O M G :)
Do you know of a download location? I've looked in Connect, MSDN, TechNet, the Microsoft Virtualization team blog, and a number of Hyper-V sites but haven't come up with a thing. Do I need more patience? I'll be very happy when all of my vhds can settle down with the rtm integration components. :)
Download of Hyper-V RTM for x64 W2K8 and the management MMCs for x86 W2K8: support.microsoft.com/.../950050
The Management MMCs for Vista SP1 are at: support.microsoft.com/.../952627
More info is at www.microsoft.com/hyper-v
Oh, and did you see in KB 950050 which OSs have Integration Components:
Integration Services for the following operating systems:• Windows Server 2008 (x86-based and x64-based editions)
• Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) (x86-based and x64-based editions)
• Windows 2000 Server Service Pack 4 (SP4)
• Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) (x86-based and x64-based editions)
• Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) (x86-based editions)
• Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) (x86-based and x64-based editions)
REALLY GREAT NEWS about W2K SP4, XP SP2, & Vista SP1 x64. Those weren't in the beta.
It's really amazing how many people have actually been waiting for this to RTM, hopefully it goes without resistence... also early reports say the performance is awesome so thats already a big win for virtualization nerds like me. Personally i wish they hade made Hyper-V interated into all copies of server2008 instead of just special copies... but thats just me
cchance, it is the other way around. It's integrated into all copies of Windows Server 2008 except special copies specifically without virtualization. This is at least what I've read and saw on the Virtualization and Windows Server websites. I could be wrong and/or the info could have changed but this is primarily so business who have no intent can save some cash.
Personally, I love Hyper-V and hope I can move some folks around to it.
