Steve Ballmer made an interesting statement during his keynote: "Microsoft is Democritizing Virtualization" bringing another player in the high-end virtualization market. With System Center Virtual Machine manager you will be able to deploy and manage Novell and Suse Linux VM's and Microsoft Hyper-V, Vmware ESX and Citrix virtual hosts.
Please explain how this software will democratize things as opposed to locking people into MS software solutions.
Is it true or false that SCVMM will require VMware Virtual Center to be installed to manage VMware VMs??
If this is true, then it's an extra $1000+ on top of the $6000+ for Virtual Center -- which is not democratic. :)
Vmware does not supply api's to directly manage ESX only through Virtual Center ESX can be managed through API's. Microsoft provides this solution so that customers can manage their existing ESX infrastructure and their Hyper-V infrastructure from 1 console.
So does it need VirtualCenter or not then? I can't work it out from your answer.
Once again microsoft proves that they know how to develop a good management application that why lately their dominating the entire server infrastructure... solid development tools, a constantly improving server platform that keeps getting more streamlined, and management apps that bring a tear to a network admin like my own's eye :)
Yes SCVMM will communicate thriough Virtual Center, if it talks to the virtual center server or to the virtual center agent on the ESX host I dont know.
