Although I haven't recieved any offical word yet, it seems as if Microsoft has let the RTM news out of the bag by mistake.

On ASP.NET's Atlas website, there is a box labeled "Get Atlas!".  In the box, is some details about what versions of Visual Studio 2005 the download will work with, and it says:
VSIs are now available for Beta 2 and RTM versions of Visual Studio 2005!
How could you release something for a product that doesn't exist?  You can't.  Unless it's a typo, that means that Visual Studio 2005 has RTMed.

Update:  According to a post on Channel9 (see comments for the link), the RTM build will be up on MSDN this friday!  Wow!  It's not often you can get developers this excited [;)].

Update #2: According to cwia (comment #5), the final build number of the .NET Framework 2.0 may be 2.0.5072.26.  A download of the possible RTM .NET 2.0 Framework Runtime can be found here.

Update #3:  Thank Robert McLaws for clarifying that this is the RC Build number, and not the RTM build number.  I do want to point out, that I did not misunderstand anything.  I am simply trying to interpret information how it was presented to me.  In my original article I did give an "unless it's a typo.." conditional.

This page confirms it, also mentioning that it is a release candidate included.

They are referring to the RC build which is an RTM candidate build. If you look in the RC build for VS2005 the version says RTM.050727-2600. And it is definitely not the Gold build, but an RTM candidate. RTM in this instance is referring to the source control branch or whatever not the Gold RTM you're thinking about as the released final version. Hope that makes sense...

We continue to be on track to complete the product and launch with SQL Server 2005 and BizTalk Server 2006 on November 7, 2005 in San Francisco.  The San Francisco launch event is only the beginning of our “world-wide rolling launch season”.  In the months after the San Francisco event, we will hold nearly 100 additional events in major cities around the world.  Moreover, thanks to user group leaders, student consultants, and other partners, we expect to augment these launch events with over 750 regional launch events.  All together, the SQL Server, BizTalk Server, and Visual Studio launches represent the single largest Microsoft product launch event in history.

Someone at Channel9 says: "VS2005 RTM on MSDN 14th October!". Have a look at the thread here: http://channel9.msdn.com/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=122324

The latest version of ILMerge (2.0.0.51008, by Microsoft Research) requires .NET Framework 2.0.5072.26 (RTM), which is available for download at the following location: http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/5/d/15d08dfb-38e2-4350-8b4d-cee1f6ffbf4d/dotnetfx.exe

Please note that I've just tried to run the latest version of ILMerge and then obtained the .NET Framework 2.0.50727 direct download link via Googling the Internet. I do not provide any official statement on which version of .NET Framework will be RTM-ed.

Right, I understand that your not making any offical statement.  That's why I used the word "may".  It "may" be 2.0.050727.26.

If it's not that, I'm fairly certain it's very close.

Version 2.0.50727 was already in the last CTP version before the Release Candidate. Seems they locked down on the framework so they can concentrate on stabilizing Visual Studio 2005...
