Halo fans will have to upgrade their computer if they want to follow Master Chief's adventures on the PC.

Microsoft has announced that the PC version of Halo 2 will only work on the new version of Windows called Vista. The decision could make it expensive for many to play the game if they have to buy the new version of Windows and extra hardware for their PC.

Deciding to make the best-selling Halo 2 Xbox game a Vista-only title is likely driven by Microsoft's desire to get people upgrading to the new version of the Windows.

Wow, while this may be effective at forcing more Vista upgrades it will be sure to piss off a bunch of people turing them towards the "Anything but Microsoft" camp.

One thing I'm curious about, since it was previously announced that there will be lots and lots of flavors of Vista, some of them designed for the home market having lots of multimedia capabilities but laking features found in the corporate versions like domain membership, and likewise the corporate versions will be lacking multimedia abilities.  Will Halo2 run on the corporate versions of Vista, or only on the consumer versions?  I know that there are a lot of road warriors who like to play games in their hotel rooms on their company laptops, though admittedly that's probably a pretty small slice of the overall market.

A friend of mine and I agree that this is more likely a push to get people to buy Xbox 360's than Vista.

A game never has, and never will convince me to do anything.  If Vista is what it's supposed to be, that will be reason enough.  Any games that run on the OS will be like any other.

As far as what version it will run on, the core of Vista will most likely remain the same across all versions.  The different features of each version will be available for paid download.
