After running the Bink.nu webserver logs through a log parser to generate statistics, I came across an interesting item.  In the search engine bots section there are two listings for MSN’s new search engine bot:

msnbot/0.3+
msnbot/1.0+

It appears that version 0.3+ stopping hitting our site sometime on January 25, and version 1.0+ started soon thereafter.  Last Friday, I reported that Microsoft was using the MSN Beta search for all of their searches at MSN.com, and now apparently they are considering their msnbot worthy of a 1.0 version number.  At this time it is unclear what has changed between version 0.3+ and version 1.0+.  Hopefully more details will emerge on this soon.

The MSN Bot has 10 times the hits on my site that Google has and takes 3 times the bandwidth over Google in whatever it's looking at.  But I have 23 times more referrals from Google than MSN.  Interesting.
