everyone is speechless because it so bad.  It's the second coming of Windows ME.

I am really thinking of moving to the new Mac OS X when it comes out in a few days.

I don't think it's bad at all, and i'm not the only one.  Lots of people use it and love it.

Everyone said XP was bad and would stick to Win2k, but that never happend either.

Also, from the looks of it, OSX 10.5 has nothing more than new Eye Candy, and a few features that aren't new to Windows users.    But hey, if you're happy paying $129.99 for something that's a service pack, go for it.

I am a system builder. I am a Microsoft certified partner.  I have spent thousands of hours on Vista.  I've plunged into the depths of it.  I've used it inside and out.  I've explored every new feature.

It sucks.

By the way, this article from Bink showing up as "news" in my RSS reader is about to make me unsubscribe.  I come here for Microsoft news, not propaganda.

Please don't unsubscribe, dhess83! What will this place will be without system builders who plunge into the depths of Vista and draw in-depth analysis leading to argumented conclusions like "It sucks"?

I agree with RanMay,  we sure need more of those argumented conclusions please.

I'm the desktop support admin at my company and we've committed to not upgrading to Vista. We will re-evaluate upon the release of SP1 and SP2 (providing there even is one), but it's not just the stability and performance that is a consideration.

Vista is just like Mac OS now... what I mean is this-- The user interface has been "dumbed" down to the point where *only* a techno-idiot can use it, i.e. someone who doesn't use technology other than limited multimedia and Internet access. Any technically advanced user that has to provide tech support to users *generally* finds it to be a nightmare. The interface changes made between Vista and XP were useless and only made tech support calls harder, not easier. Everything takes at least 3 extra steps to do than they did in XP, and that's not including UAC prompts.

Also, most of our systems at my company are laptops, and my users just can't afford the performance drain and battery drain that Vista causes (despite the 5 performance and stability packs that Microsoft has released).

Bottom line, XP has suited our needs quite well. We are committed to buying XP on our new systems as long as that continues to be the case. We're anxiously awaiting the release of Windows 7... long live odd-version-numbered OS's! Big Smile

I'm a Vista AND Mac user. Have a Vista desktop and a MacBook Pro. I'm an asp.net web developer and LOVE asp.net and SQL Server. HOWEVER I have to admit, Vista is sooooooooo buggy I nearly went back to XP plenty of times. And yes I have installed all the updates and compatibility and performance updates. I actually had to change the way I use Vista because I now know what makes it sluggish or makes it crap out on me. So frustrating!!! I even had to plug an external HD into my mac and link it via gigabit ethernet because it was too slow plugging it straight into Vista!!!

A proper comment this time - I have run Vista on two of my main desktop machines, the first machine had an Nvidia graphics card and I could not get this machine to work reliably, the Nvidia drivers would not respond sometimes and the system would wake up from sleep and present me with a black display, which forced me to have to re-boot the machine, I waited in patiently for Nvidia to release new drivers which they did but none of the new drivers fixed the wake from sleep problem or the not responding problem.  Some people would blame Vista for this but the truth of the matter is that NVidia just can't seem to get their drivers working reliably.

The second problem I had was that IE7 would shutdown whilst browsing certain sites, the same sites that I used to browse on my XP machine with IE7 - was it Vistas fault? No it was not, it was Adobe's flash player causing IE7 to close, look on tha Adobe forums and a LOT of people are experiencing this problem.

I find that Vista almost is perfect for my needs and with suitable recent hardware (not 10 year old pc's) it works very well.

I do have one problem with Vista and that is the fact that whenever you copy a file, be it a network copy or a local copy, no matter how big the file, it seems to take forever when compared to XP, there were some fixes released by MS for this problem which seem to have improved the situation but it is definitely much slow than XP.

I currently support all flavours of windows client and server systems for a large company and have done for many years, I also have many certifications from MS as well and in all truthfulness I like what they do, but if Vista was as bad as so many people say it is I would have stopped using it very quickly after installing it and reverted back to XP, in fact to cover myself at the start I made my pc dual boot between XP and Vista so I would not loose any functionality.

I am now using a fairly new desktop with an Intel graphics card and am having no problems with display drivers and no problems with performance, the machine has 2Gb of memory and works just fine.

My two pennies worth.

I am a regular "advanced user", which means I do not code, I will never ever runan OS for which I have to write my own drivers, compile the source code and so forth; I am very confident when it comes to registry and digging in other depths of software. I use particular software for my particular line of work, so I do spend too much time in front of the machine.

I wsitched to Vista once I upgraded my laptop and I am not going back to XP. I was one of those who upgraded to Windows 2000 in 1999 and XP in 2001, both times stunned by how it was always the previous version of Windows was better. I remember pretty well the people switching off the XP "eye candy" for XP to look like 2k, now I bet the same guys are rabid about how great the blue eye candy is compared to the Aero.

My laptop is a killer, my computer knowledge is more than that of a regular MacOS user (for whom everything is "dumbed-down"), all my essential software runs flawlessly under Vista, I know that were I a geek who hates UAC I'd use the Administrator account all the time, I am waiting for the new "odd number w00t!" Windows to come out to hear all the praise for Vista.

Oh, and I hate the file copying, the only crapfly in my soup.
