    Novatel USB760 AirCard

I'm having an issue getting a Novatel USB760 to install on my Dell Latitude D610.  The laptop has Windows XP SP3 on it.  I'm getting missing "Data Interfaces" so that the device is not seen by Windows.  I have taken the following actions which have not helped the issue at all:

    1. I contacted Verizon Wireless who went through the installation process with me and verified I had installed the Access Manager software correctly.  I allowed the installer to search the internet for the proper drivers for the device, but none were found.  Once VZW verified that and the device was still not installing I was instructed to exchance the device for a new one.

    2. Visited the local VZW store and got a new device but still received the same issue, missing "Data Interfaces".  The manager worked on the installation for 2 hours and he and I came to the conclusion the missing drivers where basic USB drivers, not device drivers associated with the USB760 Air Card.

    3.  I took the USB device and installed it on my home computer, again Windows XP SP3.  The installation went without a hitch and I was able to use the device to connect to the internet.  So, the issue is not with the device, it is with my laptop.

    4. I visited the Dell support web site and downloaded the latest BIOS and numerous other upgrades, including the chipset, network and modem, input devices, system firmware, system utilities and video.  The problem still persists.

    5. Searched the Windows support web site for USB760, missing Data Interface.  I came away with nothing related to this issue.

I'm at a loss.  Where can I find this missing Data Interface driver?

    Thanks,

    Jim

     Welcome to the forums.

If after updating the system software and nothing has changed, the problem is the hardware.  The USB is part of the chipset driver installation... only way to check if it's the USB on the motherboard is to connect and use other USB devices.

Contacting Dell for support is only going to get you as far as troubleshooting the notebook, not the aircard.  ISP support will give up just as easily.

This is all I could find searching the net for a similar issue.

    Re: Novatel USB760 AirCard

    Jim,

I am having the same exact problem with a Novatel usb 760 verizon wireless stick.  The techs at Verizon worked with it 2 hours yesterday but no luck.  I have an Asus Eeepc HA 1005 netbook.  This is my second netbook.  Asus had to replace the first one due to a display problem but before that happened I had installed the modem and it work fine.  Will not install on this new netbook.  It also installed on my HP fullsized notebook.  I get  the same data interface error when it tries to find the modem.  If you have found an answer please let me know...I am ready to send the netbook back once again...problem is I am paying $59 a month for wireless service that I can't use. Super AngryLois

    Lois,

I never got this problem fixed.  Fortunately for me this was an aircard issued to me by my company so I simply returned it for a different brand/model.  None of the techs could offer any solutions that worked.  I had the same issue when I tried to install it on my buddies 4 year old HP laptop.  I think it had something to do with the old USB (probably 1.0) devices in our laptops.

     Sorry I couldn't help more.

Finally fixed my problem.  When I opened the device manager I clicked on each missing dataface and clicked on properties then reinstall driver then pointed it to c:\ program files\verizon\novatel\drivers then the drivers loaded.  Did that for each missing driver.  Worked like a charm.

    Thanks for your reply anyway.

I had to update the driver in Device Manager and point it to C:\windows\system32\drivers\. Not sure how it couldn't manage to automatically find the driver in the DEFAULT DRIVER FOLDER, but that's Windows for ya.

    Re: Novatel USB760 AirCard

I had my Telephony and Remote Access Connection Manager services disabled. The telephony service being disabled also caused this error message in the VZAccess Manager. The RACM service prevented me from getting a connection. All working now... Windows XP SP3 on a Dell D630.
