There is a program out there, can't remember it right at hand...that you can install to right click a media file and it will detect the correct codec you need to view the file.

I'll try to find it and post back again.

In the meantime, you could also try using VLC Media Player.  It plays all formats except for Real Player.

hi guys iam having the same problem but I cant see picture and theres no sound just a blank screen when i try to play a movie on media player........

 

I've also downloaded a bunch of codec stuff but its still doesnt work........Someone help please.......

I had a very simlar problem, but I solved it by switching off the video mixing renderer in media player. Found by right clicking on the video display, options, advanced, remove the tick from "use video mixing renderer".

I also have this problem.  Was working fine yesterday but after running Cleanup and AdwareAlert it is not working.

I have re-installed all of my drivers. but nothing is working.  I am trying to view wmv files through Windows Media Player 11.  I have a nVIDIA GeForce 6500.

I have tried all of the suggestions already listed with no luck.

Can anybody help????

Your "cleaner" and AdwareAlert program is most likely the culprit.  If they made backups before cleaning, try restoring them.

You have to be careful with cleaners. One time I tried one that dumped all of the files in c:\documents and settings\[username]\local settings\temp. My HP scanner kept files in that directory that it needed to work properly. I had to reinstall the software. Why someone would put something like that in a temporary directory I do not know. 

 

I have an ATI 9600 and was having the same problems as you guys I reset the vard to factoiry defaults in controll pannel and now all files play

Turn down the hardware acceleration.

Right click on the desktop, click on Properties, click on the Settings tab, then click on Advanced, then click on Troubleshoot, and then turn the Hardware Acceleration down.

I found three spots from the left was the maximum I could move it before I lost the movie picture again. It should say "Disable all DirectDraw and Direct3D accelerations", it then says it is a DirectX problem, but my DirectX drivers haven't changed in the past year and the problem is new.

Some people here have said to reset the settings, I suspect all it did was reset the Hardware Acceleration with a whole heap of other things.

Alright, since im not used to all this technical stuff, how does one access a video card's configurations?

I had the same problem I uninstalled my grap[hic card driver and this fixed my problem... 

 I had the same problem.  I donloaded Codec pack and that solved the problem.  Hope it helps.
