Sad [:(] Delete TCP/IP printer port

I am tring to delete an TCP/IP printing port so that I can re set it up to start printing again but I can't seem to do it through the printer settings.
I have deleting the priter from the list no worries but when I go to delete the port it comes up with errors saying the syntex is incorrect. :(
Is there another way of deleting the port

    Thanks  :D

Can you state the printer port, as well as the command you gave to try the deletion ?

So that I can analyse and see where you're failing !

The Port is for IP printing and when highlighted (not clicked on) I press delete.  This is through the Properties of another local printer because you can't delete the port if a printer is still attached to it

    Re: Delete TCP/IP printer port

Check this link, which is for Windows XP, but it might work as well within Windows 2003 :

    http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/prnport.mspx

If you can't do it anyway, then create a new Local Port, assign the Printer's IP address and assign the correct Printer Driver to it... and forget the old one. This way users will print to the new printer no matter what !

    Keep Posting!

Exactly as catfish said, goto add printer>local printer ( uncheck the automatically detect printer) > choose LPT port for example > install the draiver that u want and when u r done from intallation right click on the new printer > properties > Ports > now choose the TCP?IP port that u wanted earlier with no need to delete anything Party!!! FYI you can remove an obsolete/invalid printer port by deleting the appropriate registry key under

    HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Print\Monitors\Standard TCP/IP Port\Ports\

Cool [H] Re: Delete TCP/IP printer port

Go under control panel to "Printers", right click in the middle of the white space on the right side of the window and choose "Server Properties".  Go to the "Ports" tab, select the port you want to delete, and choose "Delete port".

Right-click is your friend.   Geeked [8-|]

Geez, been administrating Windows for 12 years, never knew about the right-click shortcut.  Smile [:)] Definately never too old too learn. Thx!

    Nice Tip

I like the idea of removing old information from the computer, which is why I would rather delete the obsolete printer port then just assign another port.

Thanks for the handy right click shortcut. Who woulda guessed.

I have the same problem only that when I try to delete the IP port, it says it cannot be deleted since it is in use.

I usually delete the Printer queue first and then I go to delete the port under Server properties, Ports tab.  Sometimes, however, I get this error.

    Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Thanks

    Re: Delete TCP/IP printer port

I saw you note from a long time ago and need also to delete the port, BUT in my case the system tell's me "The requested resourse is in use". I drop my printer, cable etc. but no result.

Thanks in advance for your answer.

    Wim,
